Maruti S Cross

Maruti S-Cross spied with India-specific trim

The Maruti S-Cross will be here soon, and we all know how it’ll look since it’s already on sale in Europe. However, these recent spy images show how the car will be subtly altered for India. Up front, the S-Cross’s three salt grille will be replaced by a simpler two-slat job, while at the back there’ll be chrome trimmings on the tail lamps. Like the Ciaz, the S-Cross will skip the basic LXi/LDi trim, and instead the range will comprise of a VXi/VDi and a ZXi/ZDi trim.  While the VXi/VDi trim will get halogen headlamps, and 10-spoke alloy wheels, the top-spec Z variants on top of that will add 14-spoke alloys, mirror-mounted indicators, project headlamps, and LED daytime running lamps.

The SX-4 is 4,300 mm long, 1,765 mm wide, 1,575 mm tall and has a 2,600 mm wheelbase. Boot size is a generous 430 liters, and 875 liters with the 60:40 split rear seats folded down. The S-Cross, in terms of price and positioning will compete with the likes of the Renault Duster and the Ford Ecosport and later be complemented by the XA Alpha compact SUV. For the Indian market, we expect Maruti Suzuki to persist with the K14 1.4 liter petrol engine powering the Ertiga and the Ciaz with 90bhp or thereabouts on tap, depending on the state of tune. While the car is available in the European market with a 1.6 liter diesel, for India it would be propelled by a 1.3 liter oil burner with VGT turbo. This unit, again, is the same as the one found under the bonnets of the Ciaz and the Ertiga.
