Maruti offers more discounts on Ertiga to fight against Honda Mobilio

Mercury rises in the MPV segment of vehicles as competition gets stiffer. Honda is all set to launch its highly anticipated and awaited Mobilio MPV. The closest competitor for the Honda Mobilio MPV is Maruti’s Ertiga which, till now, has enjoyed very little of no competition in the Indian car market.

The Mobilio is expected to be priced very competitively against the Ertiga. Mobilio’s platform is based on Honda’s tried and tested Amaze and the MPV is banking on Honda’s sales high created by the Amaze and the City. Experts believe that there’s little doubt of the Mobilio failure in the MPV segment. However, nothing can be said for sure till the Mobilio is on sale for a few months in India.

Maruti already seems to be worried about this latest competitor and is gearing up for a tough battle ahead as it increases the discounts on its Ertiga MPV.

The Ertiga is being offered with a discount of Rs 70,000 which includes a cash discount, exchange bonus and a corporate discount. Discounting is common practice for cars with sluggish sales. But, with sales figures averaging over 5,000 units every month, a discount on Ertiga is a sign of reacting to competition by Maruti.

Powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine the Honda Mobilio churns out 117 bhp and 98 bhp of power respectively. Not only is the Mobilio more powerful, it is also more fuel efficient than the Ertiga with overall efficiency figures of 17.3 kmpl for petrol and 24.2 kmpl for diesel.
