In a news that comes across as nothing short of being shocking, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, the more powerful variant of the last gen Alto, has managed to score a rating of ZERO in Latin NCAP crash testing.
Yes, you read it right. The Alto K10 could not score even a single star out of five maximum stars in this crash test report.
In Latin NCAP’s report, it is pretty clearly stated that the risk of death for the K10’s occupant(s) is high in an event of a crash. The same report also states that the Alto K10’s structurally weak and we feel that this weakness could very well be the reason for the appalling test results.
Latin NCAP provides unbiased reports of crash test performance of various cars in the Latin American & Caribbean region. The boffins at Latin NCAP recently got their hands on a Maruti Alto K10, which is on sale in South America, and found that the car crumples badly in a frontal offset crash test. In this crash, it was found out that the car’s A-Pillar, front door, B-Pillar, roof and the floor pan suffered severe damage in an event of a crash.
The crash also showed that the car’s dashboard and the steering could seriously injure the driver during a frontal crash. The report read- “the high forces placed on the dummies pose an unacceptably high risk of death”. What makes the situation even more grim is the fact that the K10 can’t be offered with an airbag. Definitely some food for thought for all the potential buyers of the Alto K10 out there.
