Mahindra launched the XUV500 with an all-new automatic transmission in India today, with prices starting from INR 15.36 lakh (ex-showroom Navi Mumbai) for the W8 variant. The new automatic transmission is available in three variants – the W8 FWD, the W10 FWD, and W10 AWD. The new Mahindra XUV500 AT will be available at dealerships across the country by 5th December 2015.

The six-speed automatic transmission, sourced from AISIN, has a torque convertor and a planetary gear-train. It also has two uphill climbing modes, a “creep” function for effortlessly negotiating sticky traffic, as well as a manual mode. Moreover, the transmission fluid is sealed for life, ensuring service costs are kept at a minimum. This automatic transmission is also shared with the SsangYong Tivoli.

The Mahindra XUV500 AT continues to be powered by the mHawk 140 diesel engine, all of 2.2 litres, and good for 140 HP (103 kW), along with 330 Nm of torque. Standard safety features on the range topping W10 AT variant include ABS, Electronic Stability Program with Rollover Mitigation and as many as 6 airbags (front, side and curtain).

The feature list for the AT version (W10 variant) also remains the same, which includes push button engine start-stop, passive keyless entry, 6-way power adjustable driver seat, black & beige interiors, illuminated scuff plates, electric sunroof with anti-pinch function, 7-inch touch screen infotainment system with GPS, and automatic climate control.

Externally, the only clue that gives away the AT version is the Automatic badge at the back, placed below the variant badge. Embellishments like static bending projector headlamps with S-shaped light guides, puddle lamps and 17-inch alloy wheels continue to be in place.  The Mahindra XUV500 AT becomes the first in its segment to offer an automatic transmission in conjunction with AWD (all-wheel drive).
