Mahindra XUV100 starts dropping its camouflage

Mahindra XUV100

The upcoming Mahindra XUV100’s hind side has been snapped sans any camouflage – if you excuse the itsy bitsy piece of fabric that covers the tailgate that is. The rear bumper reveals somewhat complex surfacing, which involves a deep registration plate recess, flanked by deep set, trapezoidal reflectors with slim chrome bezels.

The bold, horizontally aligned tail lamps protrude from the body by a fair amount, while the compact rear screen is crowned by a roof spoiler. Other exterior highlights of the ‘micro-SUV’ will include Chevy Beat like hidden rear door handles, and a complicatedly surfaced front fascia with hints of the Ford EcoSport, its main rival.

To be Mahindra’s second offering built over a monocoque platform, the first being the XUV500, the XUV100 will be more car-like in its drivability and appearance.  The sub-4 meter compact’s interiors will feature a unique 3+3 layout, with the front bench seat hosting a fold-able middle section that can accommodate one occupant.

The Mahindra XUV100 (codename – S101) is expected to be powered by the same, 1.5-litre mHawk80 diesel engine that debuted on the TUV300 with 80 bhp and 230 Nm of torque, along with a new, 1.2-litre petrol engine jointly developed with SsangYong. At least one of the engines will be paired to an automated manual transmission, if not both. A launch is expected at the 2016 Auto Expo in February, if not earlier. Stay tuned!
