Mahindra mulling over Peugeot scooters India launch

Peugeot Scooters had 51% of its stake bought by Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) earlier this year. The French auto manufacturer is now planning on stepping foot back in India. If you remember, we had told you a while back that M&M had brought in 6 Peugeot scooters to their Mumbai headquarters. Apparently, M&M is now contemplating on launching some of Peugeot’s scooters in our market. The company could launch some/all of these scooters in India; There’s the Citystar 125, Django Sport, Satelis 2 300i, Speedfight 3, Streetzone and Metropolis 400i RS.

Django Sport has a 125cc engine and looks fantastic.

The Django Sport is possibly one of the best looking scooters and if launched, could easily give the Piaggio Vespa a run for its money. That said, all of these scooters are clearly premium and if M&M isn’t careful, their premium pricing would attract only the well-heeled. Scooters do best when they wear an attractive design and price tag. The most ridiculous offering from the Frenchies could be the Metropolis 400i RS. As the name suggests, this scooter comes with a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke 399cc engine which produces 37bhp. It also weighs 258 kg and comes equipped with three wheels, each equipped with disc brakes.

Peugeot-Metropolis (2)

The Metropolis 400i RS is loaded with features and power. Looks great doesn’t it?

The Metropolis 400i RS comes with parking brake, is this a scooter or a car? That said, the Metropolis 400i RS also comes with DRLs, which are expected on a premium scooter like this. However, we doubt if Mahindra will get this particular 400cc variant of this 3-wheeled scooter to India. This wouldn’t be a feasible idea and M&M will probably get the 250cc variant of the Metropolis. Mind you, this will still make it a punchy scooter that could turn out to be a hoot to ride.

The Speedfight 3 is likely to make it to our shores.

Though M&M is still to confirm the exact models and their launch dates, rumours afloat state that the Django Sport, Satelis 2 300i and Speedfight 3 could likely hit our shores. If you are holding your breath for these delectable scooters, then don’t. There’s at least 12 months to go before Mahindra & Mahindra unveils them.
