Mahindra enters the heavy commercial vehicle market with the launch of Navistar trucks

You might remember the Navistar trucks Mahindra displayed at the Auto Expo earlier this year. They have started the production of their heavy commercial vehicle range at their plant in Chakan, Pune.

The first truck of this HCV range, a 25 tonner called the MN25 rolls out of the plant as they commence the production of the same on 4th of June. The truck has been priced attractively at  just Rs. 14.99 lakhs. Mr. Rakesh Kalra, MD, Mahindra Navistar Ltd who was present at the launch along with Mr. Anand Mahindra and Nalin Mehta said,

“In line with our philosophy of offering value-for-money proposition to our customers, the MN25 is very competitively priced. The high performance MN25 is one of the most powerful, fuel-efficient, rugged and comfortable 25-tonner to be launched in India. Designed and developed in India with technological assistance of Navistar, who have over 175 years of trucking experience, MN25 comes with a world-class cabin which is spacious and ergonomically designed to suit Indian drivers for continuous long hauls. It’s powered by the world-renowned MAXXFORCE® engine which is highly fuel efficient and powerful. So you see we are offering a fantastic truck at a very attractive price.”

Mr. Nalin Mehta, Chief Operating Office, Mahindra Navistar said that they will try their best to start the production within the next 2-3 months. Mahindra has a big network of tractor dealers which will prove helpful in setting new dealerships and laying the foundation of a big service network. They will also start a 24 hour customer care helpline which the customers especially the drivers could use for on-road support.

Mahindra and Intenational Truck & Engine Corporation entered a JV in 2005 to produce various products ranging from the light 3.5 Tonne to 49 Tonne GVW trucks, passenger transport, cargo and specialised application trucks. They have their 700 acre big manufacturing facility situated at Chakan, Pune. This Rs.4000 crore facility will be able to produce Mahindra products as well.

They are heading towards the right direction. If the products are promising and attractively priced, no one will be able to stop Mahindra Navistar from setting itself as a big player in the CV market.
