It has emerged that Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s leading UV maker, is busy developing as many as four new vehicle platforms for its future line up.

This news comes straight from Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director – Automotive & Farm equipment, who said that a team of engineers and designers at the Mahindra Research Valley are working on four new vehicle platforms. Out of these four upcoming, one will underpin a future SUV, one a future UV and two will underpin future light commercial vehicles.

It is being said all these platforms will be ready by 2015 and the upcoming crop of UVs will be launched sometime in 2016.Dr. Goenka has said that the upcoming UVs will help his company in further consolidating its position as the country’s leading UV manufacturer. We believe that one of the upcoming platforms will be seen underpinnning Mahindra’s highly awaited compact SUV. Mahindra compact SUV, which has been internally codenamed as the S101, will rival the Ford EcoSport and is expected to go on sale under XUV300 moniker.

However, the company will be seen launching the Scorpio facelift much before the advent of the S101 and we believe that the Scorpio refresh would greet us at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo in February next year. While the upcoming LCVs from Mahindra would rival the Tata products, it is believed that the fourth platfrom that Mahindra is readying would underpin the new gen Scorpio, Bolero and Xylo.

Watch out for this space for more on the upcoming Mahindra products.
