Mahindra Canto or the Quanto facelift spied again

A few weeks back we brought to you exclusive spy images of the Quanto facelift, rumoured to be christened the Canto. Now Motoroids reader, fan, and an old time friend of the team Rohan Thakare has shared some fresh the images of the compact people mover. The vehicle was spied at Paud Road in Pune, near the ARAI facility.

In its facelifted avatar, the new Canto will retain the body shell of its predecessor, but will feature cosmetic changes made to its fascia profile and rear to enhance its visual appeal. Key changes on the new car will be a thoroughly reworked front grille and new bumpers. The car will also get a new set of headlamps with DRLs and an air inlet on its bonnet, though we think of the idea for this category as completely preposterous. The wheel arches on the car along with the styling for the handles can also be altered. At the rear, the Canto will get a new set of tail-lamps.

To go with the exterior, the interior will also be given its share of refresh. The new Quanto or the Canto will get a new steering wheel with mounted controls. The cabin will get a light shade of beige for an enhanced sense of space and aeriness along with addition of some new features too. While more details about the interior are not available at the moment, what we know is that the car will also get a refreshed instrument console along with an armrest for the front passengers.

Powering the new Canto will be the same 1.5 litre diesel engine that does duty on the TUV300, though it may be offered in a slightly different state of tune. Christened the mHawk80 the three-cylinder turbo diesel produces 84 hp and 230 Nm of torque on the TUV300. Transmission will be taken care of by a 5-speed manual and a 5 speed AutoShift AMT.

We can expect the new Quanto or the Canto to make an appearance at the 2016 Auto Expo, as the time before that event will be taken up by the KUV100 compact crossover.

The Quanto didn’t exactly turn out to be the success that Mahindra wanted it to be. Do you think that the vehicle in a refreshed avatar can sell in better numbers? Do share your views with us
