Regulars here would remember that we were among the first to report when it emerged that Nissan India is working on readying a low spec variant of the Nissan Micra hatchback. The new entry level variant of the Micra comes at a time when the international market is close getting the Micra facelift that was spotted undisguised recently.
The Nissan Micra hasn’t been too successful in Indian market and Nissan India wishes to give it a new lease of life by coming up with an aggressively priced variant that will miss out on a few features. The low cost Nissan Micra was recently spotted testing in Chennai.
The low cost Nissan Micra will be christened as the Micra Active and the car is being expected to be a lot cheaper than the current entry level variant.
Various cost cutting measures, such as revision of the NVH package, have been taken. The steering system of the Micra, which used to be imported, has been now localized. The new entry level variant will also miss out on the driver ‘s side airbag that is currently standard on all variants.
On the outside, the Micra Active will get new design wheelcaps and black ORVMs.
It will be interesting to see if the Micra Active would be able to enhance the sales performance of the Micra hatchback.
