The 150cc motorcycle segment in India is a battleground where the best of the best from all manufacturers slog it out. And almost all of these companies tend to have two different sub-types of bikes within the 150cc category; namely, the premium category and the entry-level class. For Yamaha, the former is taken care of by the FZ-series of bikes, whereas the entry-level is handled by the SZ-series.

When Yamaha India came out with the fuel-injected FZ, they had mentioned the fact that all of their future line-ups of bikes will benefit from the Blue Core Technology. That’s what happened to the new Fazer, which did benefit from this new tech. Now it seems to be the Yamaha commuter, the SZ-RR that’s next in cue to get the same treatment. The main aim behind the use of this technology is to improve the efficiency of the engine by allowing better combustion, precise control on fuel-flow and hence reduce power-losses within the motor. Though the SZ-RR lacks pinpoint fuel-injection found on the newer FZ, it will still gain from the Blue Core Technology.

The new SZ-RR will also receive a dual-tone paint job

The SZ-RR shares the powerplant out of the old FZ. This means it’s got 153cc displacement to play with and makes 12.1 PS of max power and 12.8 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. It’s said that although the new tech won’t make the bike any more powerful, it will lend a helping hand towards improved fuel economy.
