KTM Lovers Rejoice ! RC Series to Launch in India by mid-2014

KTM will be launching the RC series globally by mid-2014, followed by their launch in the Indian market around the same time.

KTM will be launching the RC200 in India first, which will be followed immediately by the bigger RC390.

Stefan Pierer, President and CEO, KTM Sportmotorcycle AG,  said the company is also working on a new off-road model. This model will be using the same engine, but will be based on a new platform with new geometry, and hence will be an all-new model. This model will take time, he said.  Read our detailed coverage of the KTM RC200 and KTM RC390.

Further, Pierer also said that KTM is also considering the KTM 690 Duke for India, but says that manufacturing or assembling the bike in India won’t be possible due to the low expected sales volumes. Importing the bike directly will raise the costs as the duties will be high. Also, imoprting will require homologation for the bike.

Stefan Pierer, at the recently concluded  Auto Expo 2014 said,  “We are a fast-growing company, not only with our products, but also with the joint products of Bajaj Auto out of India. We had a record year in 2013. We expect to carry forward the momentum with our full-faired RC motorcycles this year as well. The Indian market is so big; it is expected to be the biggest market in the next couple of years as we are eyeing sales of 50,000 units.”
