Jaguar XE Sedan Engine and Chassis Information Revealed

Jaguar has already announced the reveal date for their upcoming BMW 3-Series rival- XE. Jaguar will be revealing the XE sedan on September 8 this year, and now we have some more details on the engine and chassis for the car.

As already reported by us, Jaguar will be using the new Ingenium range of engines on the upcoming models. This new turbo-diesel engine architecture boasts of being a modular setup that can be scaled up or down depending on the capacity and cylinder-configuration requirement. Each cylinder has a capacity of 500cc. A 2.o liter four pot motor will debut XE. Jaguar hints that a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder and a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder motor are also being considered for other Jaguar – Land Rover vehicles.

Compared to the current generation of engines, the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine is claimed to be 80 kgs lighter with 17 per cent better frictional economy and best-in-class fuel efficiency. With electronically controlled oil-pumps, water-pumps and piston cooling jets, the engine can reach its optimum operating temperature faster, reducing CO2 emissions to as low as 100g/km and improving the thermal and energy efficiency.

As already known, Jaguar will be making generous use of aluminium across the chassis and mechanical components for the XE. The XE sedan will get the new Integral-Link rear suspension setup, which is compact in nature and is made from forged or hollow-cast aluminium.

The XE will also introduce Jaguar’s first electric power-steering system that claims to be as precise as its hydraulic systems but promises to improve steering feel. The XE will also feature electronic aids such as automated parking and active lane keeping. The sedan will also feature an ‘All Surface Progress Control’, which can get the car going on snowy or slate surfaces without the need of driver intervention. This will be possible due to the electronics that act like a rear differential and assist the car in gaining traction at slow speeds on slippery surfaces.

Jaguar has already confirmed that XE will come with the F-type’s supercharged V6 engine. The XE will also spawn a SVR under Jaguar’s new project. Rumoured to feature the F-type’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine under its hood, the XE SVR is said to churn out a whopping 500PS/600Nm, which will give the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and the BMW M3 a run for their money.

The Jaguar XE India launch will happen sometime next year.
