India to get second F1 track in Goa?

It’s still early days to expect this news to fructify, but if the reports doing the rounds on the internet are to be believed, Goa may soon get an F1 track of its own. The track would be the second such circuit in the country after NCR based F1 track, the work on which is ongoing.

The buzz is that the Goa government is looking forward to set up a Monaco-like track. Goa government’s tourism director Swapnil Naik told TOI about the development. “Yes, we have been approached for a F1 circuit in Goa. We have decided to go ahead with it,” he said.

The hunt for the property which will be developed into an F1 circuit is still on. The government would ideally use one of its own coastal properties to create an exotic looking racetrack.
“We are looking first at our own properties which were acquired by the state government for tourism purposes. We have quite a few by the coast. So, it could be anyone of them.” Naik said.

Goa government is planning aggressively, spearheaded by a high-powered task force to make sure that the state is seen even more prominently on the tourism map of the world. As a part of the plan, entertainment parks, boxing arenas, and the aforementioned F1 track will be developed.

Hope the whole hype doesn’t fizzle out just like all the other similar government undertaken projects.
