Maruti Suzuki showcased the Ignis Concept at the 2016 Auto Expo held earlier this year in Delhi. The compact SUV is believed to be scheduled for a launch during the festive season of the current year. While we await more details on that front, test mules of the Ignis have been floating on the internet. We saw one of the test mules earlier in February this year. Now, spy images of the compact SUV testing in Europe have surfaced on the web.

The Ignis is already available in markets such as Japan with engine duties being taken care of by a 1.25-liter four-cylinder K12C DualJet petrol engine mated to a SHVS mild hybrid system. This engine is said to produce 91 PS of power and 118 Nm of torque.

Dimension wise, the Ignis measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width and 1,595 mm in height while the wheelbase stands at 2,435 mm. These measurements will be carried on to the India spec model while the engine options may differ. Maruti Suzuki is likely to mate the India bound Ignis with the 1.2 litre VTVT petrol engine as well as the 1.3 litre Fiat sourced multijet diesel engine. Transmission duties are expected to be performed by a 5 speed manual transmission while the AGS (Auto Gear Shift) gearbox could come as an optional feature with the petrol mill.

Once launched in India, the Ignis will rival the Ford Ecosport and the Mahindra KUV100. The compact SUV will be sold exclusively through the company’s NEXA outlets. The launch is expected to take place during Diwali.
