It is now a well known fact that Nissan will be soon launching Datsun, its low cost car brand, in Indian market.
While we always knew that Nissan Datsun will commence its Indian operations with the launch of a small car, it has now emerged that the first Datsun car would be revealed in mid-2013.
The Nissan Datsun small car will challenge the likes of the Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon in the small car segment of our market. It may be noted that both Maruti and Hyundai are well established in the small car segments and it will be interesting to see how well Datsun, which will be a new entrant, manages to fair against the competition.
Datsun small cars for Indian market will be underpinned by either the Nissan V-Platform or the A-Entry platform and will be built at Renault-Nissan’s Oragadam facility.
Vincent Cobee, corporate vice president and global head of the Datsun Business Unit has said, “The company is counting on the Datsun brand to once again resonate with consumers in high-growth markets who seek attractive styling, an accessible price and – above all – an engaging driving experience.”
