We’re driving the all-new Ford Figo hatchback in and around Agra today. Launched yesterday with prices starting from INR 4.29 lakhs, the new Figo is Ford India’s refreshed B-segment offering that replaces its predecessor, which has been retired after 6 years and 3,00,000 units of noble service.
The new Figo is based on a new global platform, and is also sold in Brazil as the KA hatchback. The new Figo hatchback will look exactly similar to the new Figo Aspire compact sedan except from the back. Highlights include the trapezoidal Aston Martin like grille, the large, up-swept headlamps, the 14″ alloy wheels and the raked windscreen, all carried over from the Aspire. At the back, the hatchback gets a roof mounted spoiler, a wash/wipe feature, along with similar tail lamps like those on the Apire.
The Figo will share its engine line-up with the Aspire, which means that the hatchback will be available with a choice of two petrol engines and one diesel engine. These include:
- A 1.2-liter naturally aspirated, Ti-VCT petrol engine, paired to a five-speed manual transmission, good for 88 PS of peak power and 112 Nm, along with an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 18.16 km/l. This is a mildly re-tweaked version of the same petrol engine from the erstwhile Figo.
- A 1.5 liter TDCi diesel engine, paired to a six-speed manual transmission, good for 100 PS of peak power and 215 Nm of torque, along with an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 25.83 km/l. This is also a mildly re-tweaked version of the same diesel engine found in the Ecosport and now discontinued Fiesta.
- A 1.5 liter Ti-VCT petrol unit which will come exclusively mated to a new 6-speed, dual clutch, Ford PowerShift automatic transmission (backed by a 10-year or 100,000 km warranty). Power stands at 112 PS, while torque and ARAI certified fuel efficiency are rated at 136 Nm and 17 km/l respectively.
Ground clearance, at 174 mm, will be class leading, while a 2,491 mm wheelbase accounts for a spacious cabin. Inside, the all-new Figo offers 20 unique storage spaces, including one hidden compartment for the driver, and fold-flat rear seats to create more room.
Features would include MyFordDock in the lower variants, steering mounted audio controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs, height-adjustable seats, the Ford MyKey which provides complete parental control, and a SYNC with AppLink multimedia system. The top-end Titanium+ variant of the Figo will be only hatchback in India to offer as many as six air-bags, with even the base version featuring a driver air-bag.
