Hyundai India is set to begin the pre-launch activities for their upcoming ix25 compact SUV in June. Among several other new product-based activites, Hyundai India will also let media folks get the first taste of this much anticipated SUV. The media-focussed activities will include the first test drives of the Hyundai ix25 and that is something to look forward to. The Korean carmaker had been testing the ix25 against the Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport. But it appears that the company isn’t going to be coining the term “Crossover”, for their upcoming car.
The ix25’s wheelbase is certainly longer than that found on the EcoSport.
According to IAB, Hyundai India denoted the ix25 as an SUV and not a Crossover. As of now, Renault’s Duster qualifies as an entry-level SUV and the Ford EcoSport is a sub-4 metre crossover, some may even call it a hatchback that’s been to the gym. However, with the ix25, Hyundai India seems to have taken a liking towards the SUV tagline and that means it might be on the prowling grounds of the new Mahindra Scorpio. Mind you, the latter is tad bit bigger in its proportions and can also seat 8 people.
The Hyundai ix25 may or may not get a 6-speed automatic. Even AWD system is tentative as of now.
Hyundai India may christen the ix25 with a different name for our market. Also, as we said before, expect loads of interior equipments and several vital safety features on this compact SUV. The styling, as is evident in the pictures, will be quite contemporary and could resemble the Elite i20 in some aspects. There will be diesel and petrol engines on offer, albeit the former (possibly the CRDi 1.6-litre) will make its way to India first. This diesel mill will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and the petrol GAMMA unit will come with a 5-speed option.
We expect to find loads of cabin tech in the ix25.
