The latest offering from Hyundai India, a crossover based on the Elite i20 hatchback will be called the “i20 Active”, or a “SUV looking car”, as the Korean manufacturer would love to define it as. Designed at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim, Germany, i20 Active is scheduled to make an official Global debut in the Indian market in the month of March 2015. As these official renderings reveal, the i20 Active adopts a ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language- completing a more sporty, sharper and bold look.

Based on the Elite i20, the India specific (for now) Active will feature a slightly raised ride height and new front and rear bumpers featuring prominent, round fog lamps, as well as scruff plates. The front air dam has also become bigger and bolder. Besides, there’ll be full body cladding, Euro-spec headlamps with projectors/DRLs, new alloy wheels & tires and a pair of roof rails, apart from minor changes in interior trim.

The Active will take on others of its ilk, including the Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross, VW Cross Polo and the upcoming Maruti SX4 S-Cross. Powering the vehicle could be the same engine options – 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol and 1.4-litre CRDi diesel, both sourced from the Elite i20.

Stay tuned for a detailed review soon!
