Since it first stepped foot on Indian soil, back in 2007, the Hyundai i10 has garnered spectacular sales. The popular B-segment hatchback, has been the avantgarde of sorts for Hyundai in India. The Korean carmaker announced recently that the sales of the i10 had crossed the 2 million mark. Out of the total of 2 million units, 1.9 has been sold in India, alone! This is quite a milestone for the Korean manufacturer. The compact hatchback has acted as a sales backbone for Hyundai in India and now with the Santro gone, the i10 has been filling in the shoes left behind by its late sibling.

Since 2007, the Indian i10 has gone through several facelifts and upgrades.

In 2013, Hyundai’s Turkey-based manufacturing plant began production of the second generation model of the i10, especially for the European market. This car looks almost identical to the Grand i10 currently being sold in India, except that it has a shorter wheelbase than the Grand i10 and a slightly different exterior styling. Hyundai has successfully sold over 119,000 units of this second generation i10 in Europe. The carmaker manufactures the i10 hatchback in left hand drive and right hand drive forms for different markets throughout the world. Today, Hyundai, along with its sibling firm Kia Motors Corp., form the world’s fifth largest automobile conglomerate – the Hyundai Motor Group.
