It is being said that the Indian subsidiary of Honda Motor Company could launch its high-end All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) in India. This news comes at the back of rising demand for ATVs in India.

Studies show that annual ATV sales in India stand at around 1,200 units. Most of the single seater ATVs sold in India cost anything between INR 8-13 lakhs, while the two seater models go for as high as INR 28 lakhs.

If launched, the only real competition Honda ATVs will face in India will come from Polaris, which ventured into Indian market a couple of years back.

There has been strong growth in the past two years, with consistent demand coming from individuals, hospitality sector, adventure parks and off-roading enthusiasts. Honda is keen to foray with its high-end products and leverage its brand strength in the Indian market,” said a person close to Honda. It is being said that Honda is already conducting market research on demand for ATVs in India.

If launched, Honda ATVs could be locally manufactured to avoid high import duty taxes and would come at competitive prices. Polaris ATVs are manufactured by Eicher Motor in India. Talking about the burgeoning demand, Pankaj Dubey, MD, Polaris India, said”The market is currently at a nascent stage, but the need to mechanise in the difficult terrains across India is fueling the demand.

It would be interesting to see auto major Honda competing with successful ATV maker Polaris on battleground India.
