Honda Cars India Limited sells 16,902 units in February 2015, records 16% rise YOY

The Amaze compact saloon sold 7,163 units, making it the top-seller for HCIL.

Honda Cars India Limited is a fully-owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Company Limited and was established in December 1995. The Indian arm of the Japanese carmaker has two manufacturing plants within the subcontinent. One is located in the Tapukara district of Alwar, in Rajasthan. Whereas, the second plant is cited in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. HCIL’s sales and distribution network are reasonably well spread in the country, with 221 outlets that are dotted across 145 cities.

The Mobilio MPV sold almost 1,400 units.

HCIL reported an YOY (year-on-year) increment in its domestic cars sales of 16% for the month of February, 2015. The carmaker sold 16,902 units in the domestic market, compared to last year’s 14,543 units. The company also exported 1,119 units to some global markets over that same period. The Honda Amaze continues its strong sales, with over 7,100 units sold in February, 2015. The City comes in a close second, garnering sales of over 6,500 units. The Brio hatchback and the Mobilio MPV, sold 1,397 and 1,697 units, respectively. The expensive and the least sold car for the company, has been the CR-V. The crossover sold just 140 units during the same period.

The Honda CR-V remains a low volume car for the company, selling only 140 units.

Overall, the carmaker posted a 44% YOY growth for the period, April 2014 – February 2015. The company sold 166,366 units during this period, as compared to 115,913 units over the same period, the previous year.
