It has always been known that the Honda Brio Amaze, the Brio based entry level sedan, is headed our way. We reported in detail when a senior official of Honda Cars India confirmed that the Honda Cars India is preparing itself to introduce the new Honda Brio Amaze entry level sedan in to the fast emerging Indian car market in April 2013. Now, it has emerged that the Honda Brio Amaze sedan might be launched on April 18. The news comes from Motor Viketan, a Tamil magazine and the good folks at the Tamil publication are pretty confident about the launch date.

Honda Brio Amaze is looking all set to become the first Honda India car to have a diesel engine variant. The Brio Amaze will lock horns with the very popular Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. From whatever is known about the new car’s diesel engine, the 1.5 litre iDTEC diesel engine powering the Brio Amaze is a responsive and refined motor. This 1.5 litre engine was developed along with the 1.6 litre EarthDreams i-DTEC motor that powers quite a few Honda cars abroad.

Honda India has refrained from announcing the specifications of the new oil burner but we have come to know from our sources that the max. torque is pegged at 200Nm and that theHonda Brio Amaze tips the scales at 1,050kgs.

Talking about the petrol engine variant, the Brio Amaze’s petrol variant will be powered by the same 1.2 liter i-VTEC petrol motor that powers the Jazz. The motor will have a max power output of 90PS and a peak torque of 110Nm. The engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and an auto option is expected to follow at a later date.

The front end styling on the Brio Amaze isn’t unlike that on the Brio hatchback.

At the rear, the car gets a neatly crafted boot that won’t make the car look as oddball as the earlier gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. Honda designers have done a neat job in transforming the hatchback into a sedan. Speaking of the interiors, the car is similar to the Brio hatchback and comes draped in full beige upholstery. The car has more rear leg space than the Brio hatchback and has sculpted front seats that should make the deal even sweeter with good knee recess for rear passengers.

With traditional Honda strengths and a much needed diesel engine, the car looks all set to replicate the success of Honda City.

Prices for the Honda Brio Amaze are expected to start at INR 5.25 lakhs.
