Honda Brio Amaze to have a ‘very aggressive Price Tag’ in India

We were among the very first to report that the eagerly awaited Honda Brio sedan will be called the Honda Brio Amaze. The new car will be positioned below the Japanese car maker’s City Mid Size Sedan and go head on against the high selling Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

Mr Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Cars India recently commented on the pricing of the upcoming car. He said, “We plan to launch the diesel car at a very aggressive price that would require high level of localisation in the Indian market.

Here we have some technical specifications of the car. Also appended here is an official video from Honda Thailand that gives more clues of the styling on the Honda Brio Amaze. For the picture hungry, we have a few screenshots from the above mentioned video clip.

Technical Details

A section of Malaysian media was recently given a test drive of the new car. Honda briefed our Malaysian friends that the 1.5 litre Earth Dreams iDTEC diesel engine on duty in the Honda Brio Amaze is closely related to the highly publicized 1.6 litre i-DTEC motor from the car maker. Also, the smaller oil burner was developed along with the bigger sibling. The new motor is Euro 4 compliant.

Honda has refrained from revealing the power figures but we do have come to know that the max. torque output is pegged at 200Nm and the engine is mated to a five speed manual gearbox. This means that the Honda 1.5 iDTEC has only marginally more torque than the 1300cc Fiat Mulitjet that powers many cars in India. The Honda Brio Amaze tips the scales at 1,050kgs.

It is being reported that the motor has been well tuned and doesn’t really suffers from turbo lag. However, Honda needs to work a bit on the NVH levels. The boy racers here would be disappointed as the Honda Brio Amaze is reported to have a soft suspension which is more focussed on ride than handling.

The Amaze will be available with a petrol engine as well. No prizes for guessing which engine will be propelling it though. Yep, the 1.2 liter i-VTEC with 90PS and 110Nm currently powering the Jazz and the Brio. The engines will initially be mated to a 5-speed manual tranbsmission, with auto options following at a later date.

Design

As can be seen, the front isn’t unlike the Honda Brio hatchback. The rear though, seems to be neatly crafted and hence, the car won’t look as oddball as, say, the last gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. The designers have surely done a neat job in transforming the hatchback into a sedan. The car looks all poised to replicate the success of Honda City and the carmaker seems to have got the styling very right.

On the inside, the car continues to be similar to the Brio hatchback and comes draped in beige

Launch

The Brio sedan, nay, the Amaze will hit Thai market on November 23 and this means that we are very close to obtaining the official images and specs. The Honda Brio Amaze will come to India in January 2013.

A starting price of INR 5.25 lakhs can be safely expected for the base petrol variant.
