Hero MotoCorp allies with Erik Buell Racing to develop bigger bikes for India, enters motorsport

Hero MotoCorp has joined hands with Eric Buell Racing for its first ever motorsport venture as well as for technology transfer to develop new bikes. The company is also planning to bring some of the bigger capacity Buell bikes to India. Hero Motocorp will utilize EBR’s expertise to evolve its products.

Here’s what Pawan Kant Munjal, the MD and CEO at Hero Motocorp had to say about the development. Read carefully people, for this statement has the potential to overhaul the Indian bike market if all goes well “We are entering into a strategic partnership with Erik Buell Racing (EBR), which currently is more into high end and high performance racing bikes, as we are completely missing in this category of motorcycles. We have already started work on some of our existing products and also on completely new products. I would tend to say that by calendar 2013 (a product will be launched). As stated in the past, we will not replace the current technology (Honda’s) with just one technology source or technology company or partnership, but we are looking at multiple technology tie-ups to go for specialised technologies wherever available. Ultimately, the idea is to build our own R&D capabilities to match the best in the world.”

The riders for the championship will be Danny Eslick and Geoff may. The riders will be seen astride the flagship Buell 1190RS bikes when the first race goes underway in the USA between the 15th and 17th march.
