Google driverless cars complete 482,803 kms of testing

Regulars here would be aware that we have been closely following the developments related to Google’s driverless cars that have been testing in various traffic conditions. Now, the recent update on this technological marvel is that these cars have completed 300,000 miles (482,803 kms) of testing. This mileage is equivalent to 12 round the world tours. What is even better is that not even a single mishap with the driverless cars has ever been reported. The next step for the engineers is to program algorithms to help the car respond to temporary construction signals, snow covered roadways and other such conditions that affect car drivers.

Rumours are already floating that Google cars will be hitting the roads as soon as in 2016!!

Is this the future of cars?

  1. i mean WHY is that people who were running Hotels (TATAS) started chemicals (1939), technology (1945), cosmetics (1952), marketing, engineering, and manufacturing (1954), tea (1962), and software services (1968) in the first place.. WHY are they even in the car manufacturing now???

  2. If you ask the same WHY's then how was half the indian industry holdings formed?? They started by doing one kind of work and then expanded there reach.. take any example TATA, BIRLA, RELIANCE.. the same WHY apply there… if you can answer that WHY then your WHY is answered.. 🙂 :)…

  3. The question to ask is "Why a private IT company, not an NGO or a Govt or even an AUTO company, working on this project?" Why such a sudden deviation from searching the internet? And all the more, which auto company will support them for manufacturing? Or will the kits be self install off the shelf kits?
