Imagine taking a Lamborghini to your fields and indulging in some ploughing. Before you decide to call us lunatic and browse away from this page, let me remind you that Italian supercar maker Lamborghini started its business as a tractor manufacturing company and the legend is that the Italian tractor maker ventured into supercar business only after Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari had a little spat over how a supercar should be.
While Lamborghini was quick to become famous as manufacturer of hard core supercars, the tractor business became a part of the SAME Deutz-Fahr (SDF) Group.
It has now emerged that the company might introduce their premium tractors in India.
Speaking to Businessline, Mr. Bhanu Sharma, MD and CEO of SDF India said, “We are studying the market and may introduce some range of Lamborghini tractors in about a year. We have not decided on the models that would be introduced in India, so it will be difficult to comment on pricing.”
A little trivia is that SDF India has already been manufacturing Lamborghini tractors at their Ranipet facility in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Sharma told that out of the total of 6,000 SDF group tractors built in India last year, 800 wore the Lamborghini logo. These tractors were exported to Europe and Malaysia. He further added that these tractors employed heavily localization with many components being supplied by local vendors.
In India, Lamborghini tractors would target rich farmers and High Net Income (HNI) group people interested in farming.
