General Motors might come up with a mini SUV based on the Sail

The American car market dominant, General Motors is planning to bring in another addition to their fleet of vehicles in India. They have launched hatch backs, sedans and SUVs but have not seen the market response that they expected. Thus, the time might be right to launch a new vehicle in a new segment altogether. We recently talked about Mahindra planning to introduce the mini-Xylo and the Premier Rio is getting more and more popular as a compact SUV. With some biggies entering into this rapidly growing segment, it makes sense for General Motors to come up with a mini SUV.

This should become a hot new segment that will cater a larger market with competitive pricing. With all the automakers aiming at this new unclaimed territory, General Motors is trying to take the lead with the announcement that they are indeed planning to enter the mini SUV/Compact SUV segment. So far, there is no substantial news about the new car but there are some links that can help connect the dots about what they are upto exactly.

The President and MD of GM India has said that there is an opportunity for them to do a small sports utility vehicle and that Indian consumers are looking for a small, nimble and efficient SUV. “I think we need to go where the market is headed” he said. There are rumors that GM are testing a compact SUV that is probably based on the Chevrolet Sail and this just might be the car that brings them back strong in the Indian market.

  1. Its like you read my thoughts! You seem to understand a lot about this, such as you wrote the ebook in it or something. I think that you can do with a few % to force the message home a bit, however instead of that, this is fantastic blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.
