Ford Sanand plant inauguration: LIVE from the event

Ford India has inaugurated its newest plant in India as a part of its expansion plans. The new state-of-the-art plant is situated in Sanand, Gujarat, where the American carmaker has invited national media for a grand event.

The new plant has been built with an investment of over 1 billion dollars, or more than Rs 6000 crore. The plant is being inaugurated by Anandiben Patel, honorable chief minister of Gujarat. The new plant will create over 4000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

With the entry of Ford, Gujarat has become one of the hottest destinations not just in India but in Asia Pacific for the manufacture of automobiles. The 125km belt which covers Sanand and Hasapur will become the biggest automotive manufacturing clusters in the Asia Pacific region within the next couple of years. Authorities are expecting a cumulative investment of more than 15000 crores in the region by a variety of carmakers.

Ford India plans to increase its footprint in India with the new plant and the resultant increased production capacity. The new plant will also enable Ford to introduce new car models in India at a faster pace.  The first cars to be built at the spanking new facility will be the all-new Figo in hatchback and sedan guises.

Boasting state-of-the-art automation technology, the Ford Sanand plant is one of the most advanced production units for any car manufacturer not just in India, but across the Asia Pacific and Africa regions.

The new facility has a production capacity of 2.4 lakh cars and 2.7 lakh engines per year. This would be in addition to the plant Ford India has in Chennai where the company can produce 2 lakh cars and 3.3 lakh engines every year.
