Adding another spike to the sudden invasion of fast wheels in the country, locking horns with German excellence, Italian flamboyance and British gentry will be some wild American muscle that could grace the infamous roads in India. According to a website that maintains EXIM records, a certain 2015 example of the Ford Mustang has been imported into India for testing and R&D purposes, adding fuel to the rumors that the iconic car will be launched here.
The variant that landed at the Chennai Air Cargo terminal is the 2015 Ford Mustang’s GT Premium Fastback which is powered by a 5.0L V8 that packs a 430 bhp punch and 542 Nm of twist. All that power is transferred to the wheels by either a Getrag six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Interestingly, in an interview with Bloomberg, Tom Barnes, Ford Mustang Engineer had said, “We’re going to sell to over 120 countries and we’re going right hand drive as well as left hand and we’re offering fastback and convertible but in the end the car is truly a Mustang.”
If launched, the Mustang will most certainly be imported as a CBU from the US, and going by the value of Rs 35,75,484 that has been reported on the site, expect that amount to double, if this pony does reach showrooms in the near future as the manufacturer’s trophy car.
