Indian subsidiary of American car maker Ford- Ford India, has slashed prices of the Classic sedan (previous generation Fiesta) upt 65,000 rupees across variants. After increasing the prices of the Ecosport last week, this comes as a relief to buyers who are put off by the high prices and long waiting periods of the compact SUV, and want to move to the Classic.
The Ford Classic sedan now starts at 4.99 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi, for the 1.6 liter Duratec engined LXi variant. The price drop on the top-end Classic TDCI Titanium variant is only 37,000 rupees, which brings the ex-showroom Delhi price to 7.6 lakh rupees. The new stocks of the re-positioned Classic sedan will arrive only in February and will have a waiting period of a month.
The new Ford Fiesta hasn’t managed to garner much sales for the American car maker in India. With a facelift of the Fiesta expected to arrive soon, its nothing short of a smart move from Ford India to drop the prices of the Classic. With the 1.6 liter Duratec petrol LXi prices starting at 4.99 lakh rupees, the Ford Classic sedan now competes with sub-4 meter compact sedans such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Honda Brio Amaze. The Classic is more powerful and spacious than its competitors, and with this, Ford India is trying to position it as a value for money option.
With the Ford Classic sedan sharing a large volume of parts with the Figo hatchback, Ford India has managed to slash the prices. Also this also leads to maintenance costs that are easy on the pocket for the customers. This parts sharing also means that the interiors of the Classic might prove to be underwhelming for many.
Given the fact that the Ford Classic sedan won’t be around for more than a couple of years, as the next-generation 2014 Figo based compact sedan is likely to arrive here by the end of 2015. By continuing to sell the old gen Fiesta with the Classic name tag, Ford India is trying to garner maximum possible sales from the car by slashing the prices.

Bro, you have mentioned Honda amaze and Swift di. But what about Fiat linea Classic.. How is it? I personally feel Linea classic is much better car in every aspect in its segment. What’s your take?
