Only yesterday, Ford India inaugurated its new facility at Sanand in Gujarat and also showcased the upcoming Ford Figo Aspire compact sedan. Now, according to a report, the Figo Aspire will be launched sometime in June this year with three engine and two transmission options.

The base model of the Figo Aspire will draw power from a a 1.2-liter petrol engine. According to Ford, this engine will set a benchmark in fuel efficiency among its segment. This 1.2 mill is essentially the same Sigma engine in the outgoing Figo model, but now features a four-valve head and twin camshafts with variable valve timing. The extra bits will help increase the power from 70 bhp to around 80 bhp. Powering the diesel variants of the Figo Aspire will be the same 1.5-liter DV5 mill which also does the duty in the Fiesta and Ecosport. For the Aspire, Ford sources have hinted that the diesel engine could get a slight bump in power and torque figures. Also, the increase in power hasn’t impacted the fuel efficiency figures in a negative way and in fact the revised 1.5 diesel is understood to have even better efficiency than before.
Akin to the Ecosport and Fiesta, Ford will be equipping the Figo Aspire with an automatic variant. Powering the automatic Figo Aspire will be the 1.5 Sigma engine cranking out 109 bhp mated to a six-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Ford has ruled out the 1.0-liter Ecoboost for the Aspire due to cost reasons. “The injection system and turbocharger is really expensive and in this price-sensitive segment we feel it won’t give as much value as in the Ecosport” said a Ford insider.
