Fiat India might launch 500L to rival Maruti Ertiga

Fiat is getting more serious about the Indian car market with every passing day. After coming up with well sorted cars in the guise of Punto and Linea, the car maker is now eyeing the fast emerging mini MPV segment to snatch a chunk of sales from the high selling Maruti Ertiga. It has emerged that we might soon see Fiat India expanding its arsenal with the introduction of a seven-seat version of the highly publicized 500L micro-MPV.

The fact that the 500L will be based on a modified Punto platform should help in keeping the costs under check. Also, India has always been in love with ‘retro styled’ cars and hence, the 500L, in all probability, would be perceived as a ‘premium’ product by the car buying lot. The 500L’s seven seat version will come with three rows of seating and the dash should have inserts that will match in colour with that of the car. Safely expect the diesel variants of the 500L to be powered by the same Multijet oil burner that is found in the Ertiga.

  1. A highly dominated and increasing prosperous segment of MPV is mainly dominated by INNOVA, XYLO and the recent rock star named ERTIGA. With this entry, FIAT can change their fortunes in India, If they can put up a good show with regards to space, styling and engine and not to forget the most crucial part PRICING.we can see a very good competition building up. In this case the styling part looks something fresh. Lets wait for the other specs to emerge.

It may be noted that we never talked about low nos. being posted by 2 of the Toyota offerings. All we portrayed was that the Toyota wishes to take the sales figures higher by pushing the sales thru such schemes. As for the Etios siblings popularity, that is subject to individual perceptions and we here allow every one to comment as per his/her views.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Your input is valuable to us.

    Regards.

  4. It is incorrect to say that Etios is not selling. Check the comparative car sales below numbers

If we compare Etios with its other C segment rivals it's sales till date have been quite good compared to Verna or Vento. The only car that is way ahead of the pack is Swift Dezire. The sales figures for the rest in C-segment are similar:

    Dzire – 45383

    Etios – 22849

    Hyundai Verna – 24058

    Volkswagen Vento – 16876

This is also corroborated by others who have published sales figures. E,g, the Team-BHP page.

I can understand some of you not liking the car for various reasons .. but there seems to be a lot of people out there who like it and are buying it in large numbers

  5. I have been saying this since February 2011 that Toyota ETIOS is a disaster and Toyota must take a learning from their mistake by launching Cheap Quality ETIOS.

It also shows that Toyota ETIOS Engineers failed to understand the Indian choice in terms of Reliability, Comfort, Luxury, Performance and Brand satisfaction.

All these together make a good car. But ETIOS is only a poor car which can influence the owner who is buying the Toyota car for the first time.

Still Toyota ETIOS is costlier at this price with zero value propsition.
