Earlier We told you about the Yamaha YZF-R3, then we updated you its modified turbocharged twin, the R3 Turbo. Between the two we also informed you about the street-fighter derivative of the R3. Now get ready to ’embrace the darkness’, make way for the Yamaha MT-03.
The Japanese bike maker introduced the Yamaha MT-03 at the EICMA 2015. The MT-03 draws power from the same 321cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC 4-valve inline twin cylinder engine which generates 41.6 PS at 10750 rpm and 30 Nm of torque at 9000 rpm. The engine cames paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

While the tech specs remain similar, the styling is different, of course no fairing! The less body work gives the MT-03 an advantage over the R3 in terms of the power-to-weight ratio. The Yamaha MT-03 carries R3’s slim and compact frame with optimized balance of rigidity. Even without the body mass as the R3 the MT-03 looks strong and muscular. The new styling provides an upright riding stance for comfortable urban riding. The single headlight cluster with LED pilot lamps and fuel tank-mounted air intake pods compliment the MT family’s mass-forward silhouette. The Yamaha MT-03 is equipped with a digital analog instrument console, dual channel ABS brakes. The bike will roll out in new colour schemes.
Yamaha is set to bring the street-fighter in India in 2016 via the CKD route (Completely Knocked Down – parts of the automobile are imported to and assembled in the target country), so prices are expected to be around Rs. 2.80-3 lakhs (ex-showroom).
On the first look the new Yamaha MT-03 does look similar to the FZ line up, but way better! The R15, R25 and the R3 have taken down the Indian roads with style. Lets see how the MT-03 keeps the game going. The bike will go head on with the KTM Duke 390, Honda CBR300F, Kawasaki Z300, and the new BMW G 310 R.
The Dark Side of Japan grows stronger every day. And the new Yamaha MT-03 is the motorcycle that’s built to make the journey more exciting. Check out the video for the maker and whole bunch of new photos of the bike!
