Believe when we say we saw it coming! Our friends at Ford India recently informed us that the Indian subsidiary of the popular American auto maker has registered a domestic wholesales and  and export figure of 12,338 unit, the highest-ever monthly sales in its history.

Compared to same period last month, sales grew by a whopping 48 percent in July! Ford India sold 7,867 wholesale units domestically, a 26 percent increase compared to July 2012. Ford India exported 4,471 units, its highest export number ever, an increase of 114 percent year-on-year from 2,087 units!

Unsurprisingly, the much loved Ford EcoSport, which received as many as 30,000 bookings in the first 17 days after its launch, seems to have proven to be a ‘Midas touch’ for Ford India.

“Despite the near-term difficulty in the economy, our customers have put their trust in the urban SUV EcoSport, and with the Figo ranking as the best premium compact car in the prestigious J.D. Power India vehicle dependability study 2013, we are delighted to achieve the highest-ever sales in our history this month. It’s encouraging to see customers visit our showrooms, ready to experience new emerging segments that are driving growth,” said Vinay Piparsania, executive director, Marketing, Sales and Service.

Last month also saw commencement of shipments of the EcoSport to South Africa, Mexico and Aruba. The company inaugurated a dedicated car parking yard at the Chennai port to handle the increased export vehicle volume more efficiently.

“With Chennai strongly positioned as a regional export hub for Ford, we are excited to register the highest-ever exports too and are hopeful that the Chennai-built vehicles will satisfy customers in international markets.” he concluded.

  1. Ford is exporting cars and making people wait here for more than 7 to 8 months. They need to show commitment and respect to their Indian customers. Sad to see that they are more focused on export (read Dollar income)

  2. Now one understand the theory behind recall. The cars were being diverted to export market. The recall was just a cover up. In the name of recall which was announced on 12th July, Ford did not ship any vehicles to dealers in India till 23rd July. The export figures declared now show very clearly that the vehicles were being exported and Indian dealers/customers were put on hold under the garb of recall. Either Ford India was under too much pressure from global management or since they have more profits in exports, they preferred to hold Indian customers.
