Seems like Pune based DSK Motowheels has taken not just a leaf, but an entire branch out of the Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India’ campaign. If a report from Overdrive is to be believed, they will soon be manufacturing the entire range of Hyosung motorcycles at their facility in Wai, near Pune. These bikes will be then be sold locally, as well as exported to international markets. At the moment, they manage to assemble around 70 to 80 Hyosung bikes a month, after importing them in a knocked down format. With this deal, Hyosung could be looking at making India as their global manufacturing base.

Interstingly, according to the report, Hyosung will also bring their R&D operations to India, making the country and important cog in their global aspirations. Such a move would also mean that products like the Hyosung GT 250 R, which is a little overpriced at the moment, might see a price reduction by as much as Rs 1 lakh, owing to localized manufacturing. While there is no official confirmation from DSK about this development, their partnership with Benelli intact, this rumored manufacturing plan with Hyosung will see the emergence of a new manufacturer in the Indian motorcycle market.
