Discover 125 launch in April, back to its roots?

As most of you would recollect, the Discover started its journey as a 125cc bike. Later, the bike was presented with a variety of engine options, which at one point threatened to kill its identity as a brand. However, last year when the R & D and marketing team at Bajaj launched the brand in the commuter guise, it rewrote the history for the Pune based company registering extremely strong sales.

Over years, the Discover brand has crossed the milestone of 4 million vehicles since its launch in 2004. At present, the Discover is available in two segments, the Discover 100 for the economy conscious, and the Discover 150 for those who value performance, but not at the cost of practicality and economy.

Now in a bid to present a product which straddles the two segments, Bajaj is launching the Discover 125 next month. A new Discover in 125 cc avatar will be launched in April 2011. Seems like Bajaj has found a way that leads to the original Discover’s roots with the new variant.

The 125 cc engine will be powered by Bajaj’s proven DTS-i technology. Distinct graphics and color combination will be the key visual differentiators between the Discover siblings. The Discover 125 will be available in drum brake and disc brake variants.

The price, of course has not been announced yet, but common sense would suggest that the new bike would be positioned bang in the middle of the Disco 100 and 150 bikes.

Here are some official pictures of the bike
