This Dhanteras saw good sales of automobiles in India, especially in Ahmedabad.

In India, come every special festive occasion, jewellery and bullion traders see a big influx of potential customers who look forward to splurging their bonus. But if you thought the automobile industry would be left out, you would be mistaken. As far as festivals in India go, Dhanteras and Diwali are considered to be rather special and it is an auspicious period in which many purchase a new vehicle. This year, Dhanteras witnessed a boom in sales of two-wheelers and cars by 10-12%, which comes as a blessing for an industry which went through a crawl stage last year.

Everyone in the industry has a reason to rejoice.

College-Scooters

Scooters saw a prominent rise in sales, too.

Among the crowd of the two-wheelers, scooters continued to top the sales charts, whereas motorbikes followed close behind. The four-wheelers saw the hatchback and SUV genres lending a pleasant pat on the back with their strong sales. Sukhbir Bagga, who is the director of a group of dealerships which have their showrooms spread across the state of Gujarat said, “We delivered around 220 cars and over 440 two-wheelers on Dhanteras. Most of the vehicles were booked in advance but people took deliveries on Tuesday.” He even stated that sedans were all sold-out due to the massive demand that these vehicles saw.

Apart from Dhanteras and Diwali, the other festival which represents goodwill and prosperity is Dusshera. But in 2014, Dhanteras had 10-12% more sales happening than Dusshera. Despite this, this year’s Dusshera helped sell more than 2,000 cars and over 5,000 two-wheelers, which makes it the best sales in the recent years for this auspicious festival.
