Datsun yesterday unveiled a new product for the Indian market, called the redi-GO. Said to be a fusion of a compact crossover and an urban hatch, it calls itself the country’s first urban cross. At the heart of the redi-GO will be a 0.8 litre petrol engine as seen on the Renault Kwid. This engine will come mated to a 5 speed manual transmission.

One of the most interesting parts of this ‘Urban Cross’ will be its price tag. Reports suggest that this new product from the house of Datsun will come at a price starting at Rs. 2.44 lakhs (Ex-Showroom). This price tag, if stuck to, will make the redi-GO the second most affordable car in India. The only model to have an edge over with the aspect of pricing would be the home- grown Nano from Tata Motors; the price of which starts at Rs. 2.06 lakhs (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).

It can be noted that its sibling, the Renault Kwid comes to India for a price beginning at Rs. 2.56 lakhs. While this sibling of the redi-Go went on to create a storm in the market since its launch, the Urban Cross from Datsun just might tick all the right boxes for the brand and go on to become a success unlike some other models from the company.

The redi-Go as compared the Kwid, is 25 kg lighter and reportedly 9 percent shorter in length. A few areas where the former goes ahead of its sibling would be the wheelbase and the height of the redi-Go which measures 8 mm and 62 mm more respectively. For those of you wanting to take home the redi-Go let us tell you that the bookings will open in the month of May while deliveries are scheduled to take place a month later, June to be precise.
