We have been reporting in detail about the upcoming Nissan Datsun low cost car brand. It has now emerged that the Datsun low cost car brand will be launched in India on the July 15, 2013.

The Datsun brand of low cost cars will be initially launched in four countries, which include India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa. There are also good chances that the upcoming brand will later make it to many more car markets around the globe.

However, the cars which will be launched in India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa will be market-specific and will be designed keeping in mind the demands of each country’s typical car buyer.

Nissan is expected to make India a production hub and an export hub for Datsun cars. These cars will be exported to other emerging markets. Datsun cars are being developed by Nissan Research and Development teams and will be based on previous generation Nissan cars. First India-spec might be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, with the official launch scheduled for a few months later. The first Datsun car that will be launched in India will be based on the last gen Micra’s K11 platform. The car will have a sub-INR 4 lakh price tag and will be positioned below the Micra. This means that the Datsun small car will rival the Maruti WagonR, Maruti AStar and base variants of the Hyundai i10. Nissan Datsun also plans to launch an A segment car to rival Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Chevrolet Spark and the Hyundai Eon.
