Cornering ABS will come down to the 125s: KTM CEO Stefan Pierer

2016 KTM RC390 - 3

A little over one year into production and the already feature laden KTM RC390 received additional equipments for 2016 in the form of slipper clutch, ride-by-wire and adjustable levers. But that’s not where the Austrian two-wheeler maker intends to stop. In a recent interview to Cycle World, Stafan Pierer said that the company intends to have safety features such as cornering ABS even on its 125cc motorcycles. The sensors measure the lean-angle, pitch and braking pressure and allows the system to intervene and prevent a crash.

While Pierer did not give a specific time frame for this update on its motorcycle, it would not be incorrect to expect to see this safety feature, at least on the 390 Duke/RC390 in the Indian market, by next year. What about the Indian market? The India spec 390 Duke gets all the equipment that are available on the international market and cornering ABS too should become part of the motorcycle.

Stefan Pierer, CEO, KTM said, “We are the first manufacturer to have ABS on all of our street models, even the 125s. Fortunately we have a strategic cooperation with Bajaj, which produces almost 4 million entry-level bikes per year, so we have an afford-able ABS system. It will take time, but I’m convinced even cornering ABS will come down to the 125s someday.”

KTM motorcycles opened up a whole new space of performance motorcycles for the Indian audience since its debut in 2012. The new list of features would improve the ride experience and we really hope that the updated models would reach the Indian shores soon.
