CONFIRMED: Yamaha YZF R25 to make its public debut in late 2013

Yamaha-R25-Launch-date

We have reported enough about the upcoming 250cc performance bike from Japanese bike maker giant Yamaha.

Now, Yamaha Indonesia have once again confirmed the development of the Yamaha 250 aka Yamaha R25 (as we have been calling it since long). According to Yamaha Indonesia’s Executive Vice President, Dyonisius Beti, the new 250cc performance bike will be launched later this year.

It may be noted that a few year back, the Indian subsidiary of Japanese bike maker made a comeback in Indian bike market with the launch of R15, which is among the most popular Indian bike among Indian biking enthusiasts.

However, with the launch of Honda CBR250R, KTM 200 Duke and Bajaj Pulsar 200NS, the 150cc sportsbike from Yamaha has started getting a bit dated. Yamaha surely needs to come up with a quarter litre bike to capture the Indian performance biking segment.

Yamaha’s upcoming 250cc warrior will battle it out against the Honda CBR 250R. From what the first reports suggest, the new bike is based on the India specific Yamaha YZF R15. The same reports also tell us that Yamaha India will localize the new bike heavily when it launches the new 250cc baby in our country. This would enable it to keep the costs low and put the new Yammy across as a genuine pound-for-pound contender for the competitively priced baby CBR.

The Yamaha YZF R25 will be a liquid cooled single, just like its R15 sibling, primarily to avoid the higher costs of a twin. The design of the new bike will be sportier too, with a more aggressive front, new alloys and a racy split seat. The swing-arm on the new bike will be new and stronger as well, which apparently has been derived from the R125. While it will be wishing for too much to look at this bike as a baby Ninja contender, the Yamaha YZF R25 might have to lock horns with the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 375.

  1. When will be R25 available for purchase in Bangalore ?
    I am planning to buy a R15. Should i wait for R25 ?

  2. I am just about to book a Ninja 300 and I see this… I have been waiting for a Quarter litre one from Yamaha from a long time, now, I need to think whether to wait or go for Ninja

  3. R15 is still the sexiest looking bike on the road. In India bikes are usually used by all family members…from 18 to 80. Hence the priority while purchase is conservative and sport bikes are usually bought by college goers at dad’s money or gifted by family. So the popularity or density is meagre as their riding position is different…even cruisers included. The bajaj NS200 launched recently face the same problem with elderly people to accept for it’s riding position. I would welcome R25 to India….but suggest a Naked bike with different treatments like FZ will address a bigger customer base. Recently somebody suggested a 300cc naked bike similar to MT01 with belt final drive on some blog…which sounded good for me.
