Honda Brio Amaze

Confirmed: Honda Brio Amaze India Launch in April 2013

A senior official of Honda Cars India has confirmed that the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automaker giant is readying itself to launch the all-new Honda Brio Amaze, the sedan derivative of Biro hatchback, in the Indian market in April this year.

Honda Brio Amaze is slated to become the first car from Honda to sport a diesel engine and will battle it out against the very popular Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

From what we know, the 1.5-litre iDTEC diesel engine powering the Brio Amaze is a very responsive and refined unit. This 1.5 litre Earth Dreams iDTEC diesel engine was developed along with the 1.6-litre i-DTEC motor that does duty in many Honda cars abroad.

Honda has so far refrained from publishing the power figures of the new diesel engine but our sources say that the max. the torque figure is pegged at 200Nm. The Honda Brio Amaze tips the scales at 1,050kgs.

The Amaze will also get a petrol engine variant. Powering the car will be the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC motor that powers the Jazz. The motor will be tuned to have a max power output of 90PS and a peak torque figure of 110Nm. The engines will be initially available with a 5-speed manual transmission, with auto options following at a later date.

The front end styling on the Honda Brio Amaze isn’t unlike that on the Honda Brio hatchback. The car gets a neatly crafted rear that won’t make the car look as oddball as the last gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

The designers at Honda have surely done a neat job in transforming the hatchback into a sedan. On the inside, the car continues to be similar to the Brio hatchback and comes draped in full beige upholstery.

On the inside, the car gets more rear leg space than the Brio and comes with sculpted front seats that should make the deal even sweeter with good knee recess.

With traditional Honda strengths and a diesel engine, the car looks all poised to replicate the success of Honda City.

A starting price of INR 5.25 lakhs can be safely expected for the base petrol variant.
