India to play host to World Superbike Championship on March 9-10

Come 9th March 2013 and World Superbike Championship (WSBK) will make its Indian debut. We reported when Jaypee Sports International Ltd (JPSI) and Infront Motor Sports recently entered a deal which will see India’s Buddh International Circuit playing host to a race of the 2013 season of World Superbike Championship. The race at India is scheduled to take place on 9-10 March. India will play host to the second race of World Superbike Championship with the first being scheduled to held at Phillip Island, Australia.

Buddh International Circuit, thanks to its layout and characteristics, should become one of the fastest World Superbike Championship circuits round the globe. This is surely a great news for Indian biking aficionados and we are expecting an even larger turnout than the Indian round of 2013 Formula 1 Grand Prix.

What we have here as the lead image is the championship calender that has been sent to media by the good folks at FIM.

“We are extremely happy to announce that besides holding the Formula One and FIA GT1 motor racing series, we will also hold a thrilling motorcycle race. There are many in India who are passionate about bikes. I am sure they would love to watch famed motorcycle drivers compete against each other here at their own world class racing circuit,” Sameer Gaur, JPSI MD and CEO, had said on signing the deal with IMS.

The event will see teams from popular superbike makers like Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Aprilia, and BMW locking horns and battling it out for the podium.

“We are sure that the Superbike World Championship will bring added value to BIC, as well as to India and vice versa . It will also deliver value to all the automobile companies supporting and following our Championship, a very important opportunity to expand their brands and business in Asia,” Maurizio Flammini, Chairman of Infront Motor Sports, said.
