Chevrolet Sail UV-A to soon get a New base diesel variant

That the recently launched Chevrolet Sail UV-A hatchback hasn’t set sales charts on fire is a known fact.

The Chevrolet Sail hatchback caters to the B-segment of Indian car market, a segment which comprises of the invulnerable Maruti Suzuki Swift. Such has been the demand for Swift that the waiting period for the diesel variants extends all the way to the last quarter of this year. Chevrolet India was hoping to give the Swift a run for its money by offering more space and a longer equipment list. However, the Sail hatchback couldn’t make the smallest of the dents on Swift’s sales performance and is on the verge of being classified as a dud seller.

Merely 560 units of the Chevrolet Sail hatchback were sold in February, which is laughable when compared to the 19,534 units of the Swift that MSIL sold in same period.

We reported in detail when Chevrolet India recently slashed down the prices of the already well priced Sail hatchback. The base petrol variant, which earlier retailed for INR 4.44 lakhs has been priced at INR 4.19 lakhs now. The Sail UV-A 1.3 diesel LS variant, which was earlier priced at INR 5.87 lakhs has been priced at INR 5.73 lakhs now.

However, it seems like GM India feels that it has to do more than to just revise the prices of the slow selling car. What else explains the upcoming entry level diesel variant?

The Chevrolet Sail hatchback base diesel variant would go on sale for a price of INR 5.29 lakhs. The Swift LDI, the base diesel variant, has a sticker price of INR 5.58 lakhs. The Sail U-VA base diesel variant will come equipped with Aircon, power steering and front power windows among others..

The new entry level model of Sail UV-A diesel would be launched in 2-3 weeks.

  1. This is a bad move.. Instead, they should change the interiors..Make it more presentable..The dash board and the steering has killed the vehicle.. Even toy cars have better steering!
