The 1 Series will be brought to us by Sachin Tendulkar and Armaan Ebrahim, with Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India addressing the press conference.
The BMW 1 Series is slated to go on sale in India in both petrol and diesel powered variants. The BMW 118d, which is the diesel variant of the 1 Series, will be powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower turbocharged oil burner that has a max power of 143 bhp and peak torque of 320 Nm. The diesel engine has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 20.58 kmpl. The BMW 116i, which is the petrol variant of the 1 Series, is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit that has max power-torque of 136bhp-220Nm. This engine has a n AEAI tested FE of 16.28 kmpl.
The BMW 1 Series hatchback will come to us via Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route and could be priced at around INR 22.5 lakhs. The BMW 1 Series will lock horns with the recently launched Mercedes A Class and will cater to those in the market for a premium hatchback.
