Honda Cars India registered monthly domestic sales of 10,486 units in the month of April 2016 against 12,636 units in the corresponding month last year. Exports too took a hit as the car maker exported a total of 496 units during April 2016 against 853 units in the corresponding month last year.

Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India cited the ‘sudden shift in consumer preferences from diesel to petrol’ as the reason for fall in sales numbers.

Elaborating on the continuing challenge to the industry, Jnaneswar Sen said that the automobile industry is facing big challenge because of sudden shift in consumer preferences from diesel to petrol. Moreover, the continuing ban on diesel has also impacted consumer sentiment. All these have impacted Honda Car India’s sales as there is a big mismatch in demand and availability of required variants. The car maker is now taking corrective measures to address the situation and despite the current challenges, is confident of positive growth in this fiscal.

Similar to April 2015, the Honda City remains the highest selling model for the car maker in the Indian market with a total of 5,793 units being sold in April 2016.
