Auto Expo 2016 : BMW launches the new X1 in India, priced at INR 29.90 lakh

BMW India have launched the new, second generation X1 in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. The second generation of the premium compact crossover, what BMW prefers calling a sports activity vehicle (SAV) was unveiled by Sachin Tendulkar at the motor show.

BMW has introduced the new BMW X1 in three trim levels – Expedition, xLine and M Sport. All three variants are available only with a diesel engine.  The petrol variants of the car will be launched later in the year.

The prices of all the variants of the new X1 are provided below

The all-new BMW X1 sDrive20d Expedition        :       INR 29,90,000

The all-new BMW X1 sDrive20d xLine                :      INR 33,90,000

The all-new BMW X1 xDrive20d xLine                :      INR 35,90,000

The all-new BMW X1 xDrive20d M Sport            :      INR 39,90,000

The new X1 is powered by a TwinPower Turbo 1,995 cc four- cylinder diesel engine with a power output of 190 hp and peak torque of 400 Nm available at 1,750 – 2,500 rpm. The new BMW X1sDrive 20d Expedition and xLine accelerate from 0 to 100 km / hr in 7.8 seconds with a top speed of 222 km / hr.  The M Sport accelerates from 0 to 100 km / hr in 7.6 seconds with a top speed of 219 km / hr.     The engine is mated to a new eight-speed steptronic automatic transmission

In its newest avatar, the X1 gets a ‘three-eyed’ face formed by the twin circular LED headlights and the fog lamps. Its bigger in size too, and looks more purposeful and aggressive that the previous version.

On the inside, the seating position is elevated for a better view of the road. Seats are electrically adjustable on both the driver and front seat passenger sides. In addition, the vehicle has grown in height and space compared to its predecessor. The luggage compartment now accommodates up to 505 litres. The rear seat can also be completely folded down to increase the compartment capacity to 1550 litres.

The xLine gets satinised aluminium add-ons and 18″ light alloy wheels. This variant exudes a more rugged, off-road kind of a feel.

The M Sport, on the other hand, is a sportier variant, is fitted with M aerodynamic package and 18-inch M light-alloy wheels along with M badging on the sides. The interior of the M Sport version is also sportier with M sports seats and M leather steering wheel. xLine and M Sport both feature panorama sunroof and ambient lighting scheme.

The car gets Servotronic speed-sensitive steering assistance which offer great maneuverability at low speed and steering precision at higher velocities.

BMW xDrive technology is an all-wheel-drive system which along with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), makes the vehicle directionally stable and distributes drive power flexibly between the two axles for optimum grip and safety.

Safety features include six air bags, ABS with brake assist, DSC with Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control, Hill Descent Control, Side-impact Protection, electronic vehicle immobiliser and crash sensor. The car also comes with a spare wheel and tyre as standard.

Better aerodynamics, along with BMW EfficientDynamics  have reduced fuel consumption. Side air blades on the tailgate and the air curtain integrated into the air inlets aid aerodynamics. Additional features such as the 50:50 weight distribution, low centre of gravity, lightweight construction, start/stop function, ECO PRO mode, brake energy regeneration and electric power steering reduce consumption further.

The range of upholstery combinations in the new includes Sensatec Black and Black, Sensatec Canberra Beige and Black. In M Sport, the range of fine upholstery combinations in Dakota leather include Canberra Beige, Mocha with Black/Mocha, Oyster with Grey highlight and Black, Black with Black, Black with Blue Highlight.

The new BMW X1 is available in Alpine White (non-metallic) and in the following metallic paintworks: Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver, Mineral White, Mineral Grey, Sparkling Brown, Sparkling Storm Brilliant Effect, Platinum Silver, Atlantic Grey, Mediterranean Blue and Chestnut Bronze. The exclusive metallic paintwork for the M Sport range includes Estoril Blue.
