Bajaj has announced that the RE60 will go on sale once it the government gives the final nod to this new type of vehicle.
Bajaj Auto President-Commercial Vehicles, RC Maheshwari, said: “Two years back, we had showcased the RE60… Today we are ready for commercial production of this vehicle. We are just awaiting government notification.“
“If all goes well, our expectation is that launching the RE60 should be possible by September-October this year,” Maheshwari added.
He further added that the manufacturer is ready with a production capacity of 200 units per day at its Aurangabad facility, which is currently responsible for manufactuering the three-wheelers.
Speaking about the upcoming vehicle’s price, Maheshwari said that the same would be announced at the time of the launch. However, it will certaibly be pricier than a three-wheeler. “This will be available in fuel options of petrol and CNG.“
Talking about the export plans for RE60, he said,”We are getting a feel of the product in some overseas markets with some distributors… Countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Peru and Nigeria have potential for this vehicle,“
The upcoming Bajaj RE60 is powered by a single cylinder petrol engine that boasts of a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 35 kmpl. The single pot, 200cc, DTS-i engine has a max power of 20bhp.
The Bajaj RE60 boasts of rather oddball exteriors and it would be interesting to see if the RE60′s exterior design would go down well with the public. The insides of the RE60 consist of a layout that can be ordered with either 1+3 or 2+2 seating. The RE60′s dashboard sports a centrally mounted speedo console and positioned just below the instrument binnacle is the gear lever.
