It has emerged that VW owned German premium car maker Audi might soon buy Alfa Romeo from the Fiat group. The news comes from sources close to both Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler. Audi might acquire not just the Italian car brand but also the Pomigliano assembly plant.

This is not all as the deal could also see the Audi buying the Magneti Marelli auto components unit from Fiat.

However, both the manufacturers have decided to dismiss off the news as a mere speculation

“We do not comment on speculative rumors,” Fiat spokesman Richard Gadeselli says here.

Ingolstadt-based Audi spokesman Juergen De Graeve says, “There is no substance in the news.”

Some industry watchers are of the belied that Alfa Romeo could have a better future under Audi and Volkswagen Group.

Only time would tell if the German car maker is really in process of acquiring a renowned Italian car brand.
